Theme: Who Sampled
The website whosampled.com was the inspiration for this week’s show. When I first found this website I was amazed, you can get stuck there for hours. It’s awesome to see how many songs have been sampled and re-appropriated to other genres and remixed in different ways. Joe also stopped by and played a song towards the end.
The Winstons Amen, Brother
- Breakbeat...

Theme : Sleep
For my second show of 2011, I picked the theme of sleep. This was the same day that we had the Open House/Pizza Party, so naturally, my show got hijacked by all the staff and guests and of course, Devo. At least it was a pizza partyin’ cheesy good time
Memoryhouse - Sleep Patterns
Blind Melon - No Rain When You Sleep - My Bloody Valentine

Theme: Modest Mouse
I must admit, this show was kind of a cop out for me theme wise. Modest Mouse is one of my all time, if not the all time, favorite band. Thus, doing a show on them is pretty easy, and as my motto for doing a radio show goes - when in doubt, play Modest Mouse.
So I did. And I quite enjoyed it.
I played some rare stuff, instead of the usual popular songs. I feel this is...
Show 4: From October 29, 2009
Theme: Instrumentation
After a year or so of doing this show, I have realized that I have never focused a show on pure instrumentation. My focus, has always been on lyrical content and messages of songs themselves. That is what I gravititate towards naturally, it’s a make or break situation for me most of the time.
So, I decided to break this cycle and make a show based purely on...
Show 3: From October 22, 2009
Theme: Decisions, People Changing, Unexplained Feelings
The theme for this week was a personal one, almost a subcoscious mix of songs that took shape throughout the week from what I was feeling, and in turn, listening to. This theme was kind of hard to explain, so I’ll let the songs speak for themselves instead.
The song genres are from all over. So don’t be startled if you hear some...

Theme: Bands That Could Have Opened for The Mars Volta
This week’s theme was inspired by The Mars Volta show from October 8 at Roseland Ballroom. The Mars Volta’s lack of an opening band inspired me to make a theme revolving around possible bands that could have opened for them. After all, they are in a position where they can support some great smaller bands out there that have...

No Show This Week - The Mars Volta
There won’t be a new show this week, because I am going to see The Mars Volta!
Courtesy of WSVA, of course.
To make up for not having a radio show, I will instead update with an entry devoted The Mars Volta concert tonight.
Country and Southern Rock - Premiere Show of...
Last week, my trip to Nashville inspired me to make country and southern rock music the topic of my debut show.
It was one time opportunity, and a trip that I will never forget. I had won a trip to see Jack White’s Third Man Records studio, and was given a tour. I also met my musical hero and had a chance to talk to him, shake his hand, and take a picture. Being an opportunity and a memory...

Modest Mouse
Sasha’s Theme Time Jukebox is back this week, with the theme of Modest Mouse!
Being my favorite band, the theme made this show very enjoyable but also very hard to assemble. The hour was full of both old school Modest Mouse tunes as well as their newer, Johnny Marr influenced work.
It made for one hell of a relaxing hour.
So sit back and zone out to some Modest Mouse.

Happy & Upbeat
This week’s theme was Happy & Upbeat music. It was chosen to provide a balance for the past two weeks, which had pretty angry and unhappy themes.
While some of these songs were happy in all aspects, from music to melody, others had an upbeat sound with serious lyrics.
Here’s the setlist:
Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss - Built to Spill
Electric Feel - MGMT
Heavy Metal Drummer...

Infidelity & Betrayal
This week’s theme was a nice one just like last week. That’s right, Betrayal and Infidelity! One would think that this is an easy theme to pick songs for, but it was pretty hard.
Some of these songs just briefly touch on the theme, while others are full on pissed.
I didn’t get to play all the songs that I wanted this week, but I’ll give you the full playlist anyway.

Anger & Spite
This week’s theme was Anger & Spite.
The way I see it, there are two different ways to approach “angry” music. Either you make it really loud and heavy with angry lyrics, or just play regular, calm music with spiteful lyrics. Lyrics with a bite.
I prefer the latter, but there’s no denying that heavy music provides a good catharsis.
Some of these songs aren’t so...
Reverb
This week, the theme of the show was Reverb.
What is reverb? Well, reverb reverberation is the persistance of sound in a space, even after the sound is removed. So, it is a lot like an echo.
Reverb is an important part of music and many bands use reverb whether on their vocals or musical instruments.
Personally, I am a huge fan of strong vocal reverb, as made popular by My Morning Jacket.

Bands to Watch
This week’s show was dedicated to promoting some great and little-known bands to watch and listen to in 2009. Aka, a hipster’s worst nightmare! ;)
Some of the bands are just getting started, while others have been releasing great records for years. The point of this show was to bring attention to those especially gaining momentum this year.
I have great confidence that these these...

Sasha’s Themetime Jukebox - First show back!
Now at a new, Primetime spot. 7-8 pm on Thursdays. Right before all the Thursday madness begins, aka Wizards of Radical and Thrashin’ Thursdays.

Nice and cheesy, nothing’s real and everything’s a knockoff.
